2024 Labor Day Observance (History Channel)
Foundational Scriptures: Genesis 2:15; Exodus 20:8-10; Colossians 3:23-24 (Amplified Bible)
15 So the Lord God took the man [He had made] and settled him in the Garden of Eden to cultivate and keep it.
23 Whatever you do [whatever your task may be], work from the soul [that is, put in your very best effort], as [something done] for the Lord and not for men, 24 knowing [with all certainty] that it is from the Lord [not from men] that you will receive the inheritance which is your [greatest] reward. It is the Lord Christ whom you [actually] serve…
8 Remember the Sabbath (seventh) day to keep it holy (set apart, dedicated to God). 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath [a day of rest dedicated] to the Lord your God; on that day you shall not do any work…
What is Labor Day?
LABOR DAY 2024 -The observance pays tribute to the contributions and achievements of American workers and is traditionally observed on the first Monday in September. The labor movement created it in the late 19th century and became a federal holiday in 1894. Jobs are vital to America’s ability to maintain a decent quality of life for its Citizens. Since the Founding, these key issues; Job Availability, Hiring Practices, Dignity, Safety, Working Wage, Pay Equity, Quality of Life, Labor Unions, and Retirement Benefits, have been the focus for every American Worker.
The First Workmen’s Holiday
The idea of a “workingmen’s holiday,” celebrated on the first Monday in September, caught on in other industrial centers nationwide, and many states passed legislation recognizing it. Congress would not legalize the holiday until 12 years later when a watershed moment in American labor history brought workers’ rights squarely into the public’s view. On May 11, 1894, Pullman employees of the Pullman Palace Car Company in Chicago went on strike to protest wage cuts and the firing of union representatives. To break the Pullman strike, the federal government dispatched troops to Chicago, unleashing a wave of riots that resulted in the deaths of more than a dozen workers.
Who Created Labor Day?
In the wake of this massive unrest and in an attempt to repair ties with American workers, Congress passed an act making Labor Day a legal holiday in the District of Columbia and the territories. On June 28, 1894, President Grover Cleveland signed it into law. More than a century later, the true founder of Labor Day has yet to be identified.
Our Prayer
BE EXALTED ELOHIM (YAHWEH – Jehovah – The Eternally Existent One) as our Divine example this Labor Day! Divine Call Ministries recognizes that as Creator of heaven and earth, You, Sovereign God, worked for six days and rested -we honor the Sabbath as unto You for that reason. Additionally, the Universe and all that is in it was created with excellence, and set in motion in perfect symbiosis. Help us, Dear Heavenly Father to be mindful of purposeful labor, that is God honoring. Ultimately, help us to thrive at our workplaces dear Lord. As per Psalm 90:17…let the [gracious] favor of the Lord our God be on us; Confirm for us the work of our hands— Yes, confirm the work of our hands...in the Name of Jesus Christ, we pray, Amen and Amen!!
